The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée was showing especially well, soaring from the glass with scents of peach, pear and green apples mingled with hints of white flowers and fresh pastry. Full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with racy underlying acids and chalky structuring extract, this is another profound La Romanée in the making from Lamy-Caillat.
Rich primrose colour, some oak evident on the nose along with the complexity of full lees contact and a wonderful weight on the fruit. Early days yet and it is hard to sort out all these dimensions accurately. On the second half of the palate, you rediscover the real wine with energy and balance and a really harmonious thread.
