In 2004, the summer in Burgundy was cool and rainy, which caused concern among winemakers; however, dry and windy weather set in during September, allowing the harvest to regain its balance. The 2004 “Charmes-Chambertin” from Domaine Tortochot reflects its typical light style and is a Grand Cru in which freshness, rather than power, prevails. At that time, the domaine was headed by Chantal Michel-Tortochot, who managed the family’s Grand Cru plots located at the southernmost tip of Gevrey-Chambertin.
