Plat'bos means flat bush, and it is a 5.5-hectare Chenin Blanc vineyard planted in 1981 on granite soil; it was interplanted on R99 rootstock and selected to preserve the clone's distinct characteristics. David & Nadia bring the fruit in first, before any other parcel. In 2024, windy and sometimes stormy weather disrupted the flowering period; inland areas experienced spring frosts, followed later by a heatwave. This wine is completely dry, fermented without commercial yeast, and has a pH of approximately 3.0-3.1. It offers aromas of lemon and grapefruit, with a salty, chalky edge that gives it a crisp rather than opulent character. Only 1,700 bottles were produced. It is best enjoyed between 2026 and 2043.

The David & Nadia 2024 Swartland Plat'bos Chenin Blanc, meaning “flat bush,” is sourced from 5.5 hectares interplanted on R99 rootstock and carefully sorted to preserve clonal identity. Only 100 meters from neighboring Skaliekop, Plat'bos presents a markedly more mineral and saline profile. With a pH around 3.0–3.1 (a hallmark for age-worthy Chenin Blanc) its tight linear shape is defined by tension and clarity. Bone-dry fermentation without commercial yeast highlights the wine's elegant citrusy fruit tones and its saline finish. The sandy granite soils amplify its crystalline precision and smoky edges.

This is very mineral and sharp, showing aromas and flavors of whole lemons, white grapefruit and seashells. It’s medium-bodied, saline and linear but with phenolic texture too. Mouthwatering acidity. This will age wonderfully. From a vineyard planted on granitic soils in 1981. Drink or hold. 1,700 bottles produced.

The 2024 Chenin Blanc Plat'bos is the first parcel picked. This has a taciturn bouquet at first, but opens with light beeswax and wet wool scents. The palate is taut and fresh, a linear Chenin with grapefruit and tangy orange rind notes towards the finish. Very fine, but it's unapologetically not a crowd pleaser.
