Château Troplong Mondot is established in Saint-Émilion, a wine district known for its elegant red wines suitable for both real wine connoisseurs and entry-level drinkers. The best vintages deriving from Château Troplong Mondot are 1990, 2005, 2009 and 2010 all known for its profound and full-bodied taste of blackcurrants and smokiness. Some other very good vintages are 2000, 2008, 2012, 2015 and 2017.
The Château Troplong Mondot historical roots can be traced back until the early 18th century, when it was still a part of the Chateau Pavie estate. Around the midst of the 19th century the estate was acquired by Raymond Troplong, who named the château after his last name and “Mondot” after the land on which the château is established.
Covering 30 hectares of vineyards that consists 5% Cabernet, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 90% Merlot grape plants, this château is one of the largest vineyards in the era. At Troplong Mondot the grapes are hand harvested and the wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks, whereafter the maturing process takes place in oak casks for approximately 18 – 24 months.
