Aux Montagnes 2024 is a red Côte de Nuits-Villages made exclusively by Charles Lachaux using only Pinot Noir grapes through his micro-négociant label. This label began in 2018 as a side project alongside Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux and is operated differently from the domaine: the aging period is shortened, and the wine is bottled young, making it enjoyable to drink in its youth without sacrificing its potential for long-term aging. In the cellar, The wine undergoes whole-cluster fermentation, uses wild yeast, and is neither fined nor filtered.
2024 was a challenging year in the Côte de Nuits region. Rainfall was more than 55% higher than average, sunshine hours between January and September were 10% lower than average, and there was a severe outbreak of mildew, particularly affecting red grape varieties. Yields plummeted. Many growers harvested less than one-third of their average yield, and in some parts of Côte de Nuits, losses reached 80%. Harvesting mostly began around 12 September, while the Côte de Nuits region waited longer; thanks to the warm, sunny weather in the middle of the month, the remaining fruit reached phenolic ripeness. The alcohol content is 13.5%.
