This light red wine from Arbois in Jura is made from 65% Ploussard and 35% Trousseau grapes grown by Renaud Bruyère and Adeline Houillon. These grapes were harvested from a west-facing marl site that is part of a 4-hectare low-yield vineyard. In 2022, this west-facing exposure played a significant role. France recorded its driest July since 1959, with monthly precipitation totaling just 9.7 mm compared to 90.8 mm the previous year; while dry weather persisted throughout the summer, there were bursts of unpredictable weather. In such dry years, vineyards with lower temperatures and later ripening tend to retain their freshness.
Some of this winery's red cuvées undergo a semi-carbonic maceration process, which highlights the fruit aromas and ensures a gentle extraction. Expect a wine that is light in color, aromatic, and light on tannins, rather than a deep-colored wine.
It offers aromas of wild strawberries and cranberries, with subtle hints of earthiness and gamey notes commonly found in Ploussard. When poured into a glass, it has a light color, slightly darker than a deep rosé. On the palate, it is crisp and light, with almost no perceptible tannins, and at 14%, it is not heavy. It is characterized by red fruit flavors and a savoury edge on the finish. Since it is bottled unfiltered, a small amount of sediment is normal.
This wine should be served a bit chilled.
