The 2018 Syrah Eddie's Patch is packed with black cherry, lavender, spice, licorice and scorched earth. A healthy dollop (33%) of whole clusters adds quite a bit of complexity. This dense, muscular Syrah is going to need at least a few years to come together, but it is promising. The Eddie's Patch emerges from a site just above Limerick Lane.
A lovely, 100% varietal wine aged 20 months in French oak, this is juicy, herbal and offers a substantial foundation of power. Cedar, tobacco and tomato leaf accent a core of crushed rock, dark plum and threads of acidity—the weight and structure lifted by underlying freshness
Even better, the 2018 Syrah Eddie's Patch comes from the Russian River Valley and saw 30% stems. It has a touch more vibrancy as well as gorgeous notes of blue fruits, crushed violets, ground pepper, and a touch of loamy earth. With terrific balance, silky tannins, and a solid spine of acidity, it's another killer Syrah from this estate.
The 2018 Syrah Eddie's Patch is deep ruby-purple in the glass with a nose of blackcurrants, cocoa, bay leaves and grilled meats. The palate is full-bodied with ripe fruits that are grainy and fresh, and it finishes lifted.
Muscular and brooding, with intense blueberry and cherry flavors that are marked by bitter chocolate, black olive and smoked pepper. Hands off for now. Best from 2022 through 2030.
