Pinot Noir from the Fort Ross-Seaview corner of Sonoma County, made by RAEN Winery, the Sonoma Coast project of Carlo and Dante Mondavi.
In 2016, rain during the flowering period stunted the growth of grape clusters in a few vineyards. As a result, both the berries and the clusters were smaller, and yields varied depending on the variety and location. When the fruit-to-skin ratio is tighter, as in this case, the flavor of the final wine tends to be more concentrated.
Whole-cluster fermentation, natural yeast, and neutral French oak barrels (barrels that had already imparted all their vanilla and toasted aromas to previous wines) were used.
It's ready to drink now, but it's even better if you let it breathe in a decanter for about an hour.
