Domaine Curry is a collaboration between sisters-in-law Sydel Curry and Ayesha Curry. They debuted not so long ago, only in 2018 they launched their very first wine: the Domaine Curry Cabernet Sauvignon 2015. A year later, their Sauvignon Blanc came on the market as well.
The Curry sisters looked for a company in which they could work together. Previous concepts included a clothing store and a sunglasses brand. Eventually, the idea of owning a winery came up. During a family dinner, the plans were outlined and the sisters-in-law decided to go for it. Sydel Curry refers to the Biblical proverb 31:16: “She considers a field, she buys it. From what she has earned, she plants a vineyard.” This proverb is Sydel's confirmation that the wine world is a place for women.
The winery works closely together with several growers in Napa Valley, California of whom they only buy the highest quality fruit. The red wine is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 9% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot. The wine is aged in French oak barrels. Their white wine is made of 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The first launch of the Domaine Curry Cabernet Sauvignon consisted of only 300 cases. There are plans to increase production to 1,000 cases per year. Unfortunately, the wildfires that have raged in Napa Valley in recent years have made this more difficult.
Domaine Curry may have only just conquered its place in the wine world, but that does not affect the quality! The wines have already achieved fantastic scores! The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon received 95 Parker points from the Wine Advocate, 94 points from James Suckling and 93 points from Antonio Galloni. Curry’s Sauvignon Blanc has also scored 90 points several times. A star is born!
