The 2001 Termanthia certainly has more vigor on the nose than the 2000, with cedar, wild mint-infused black fruit, and touches of cigar box developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with quite robust tannins. There is an intense core of sweetness at the center of the 2001 with hints of eau-de-vie developing in its sweet, coconut tinged finish.
This ambitious red shows plenty of extraction, with ripe fruit and toasty oak fighting through gripping tannins. It's exuberant, but needs time to harmonize and show the full range of its flavors.
