I tasted again the 2018 Ukan that I had found too oaky previously. Now, the wine is absorbing the oak nicely and the freshness of the vintage is coming through. It was produced with Tempranillo grapes from old vines on limestone soils in the Rioja Alavesa. It feels very different from the wine I described last time. . . .
Aromas of ripe berries, dried herbs, light spices and stony soil. Soft and polished, with chalky tannins and ripe blue-fruit character on the palate. Refined, crunchy and delicious. Tempranillo.
Dark-garnet in the glass, this wine has a nice note of flint alongside dark-berry aromas. It starts off as a fruit bomb and then fills the palate with dried Mediterranean herb flavors mingling with cool spice notes, all shrouded in a web of robust tannins.
