With fruit sourced from the Castelnuovo dell'Abate subzone, the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Vallocchio is a plump and delicious wine that bursts open with bright red berry, cherry and blackberry. The bouquet is soft, seamless and packed tight with gorgeous intensity. This is a delicious wine and I enjoyed the 2011 version over the highly applauded 2010 vintage. The alcohol is high (at 15.5%) and the wine is not too profound or complex. But it definitely offers an extremely enjoyable and approachable style that can be consumed shortly after the wine is released.
Dark and dense, this is laced with black currant, black cherry and spice aromas and flavors. Tightens up on the finish, where dusty tannins and tobacco and spice notes reign.
