Wines from Le Ragnaie

Le Ragnaie

The vineyards of Le Regnaie cover 28 hectares and are spread throughout the municipality of Montalcino. The vineyards are divided into three parcels, each with its own terroir. The Le Regnaie plot is located in the central part of Montalcino and is at the highest point of the region. The Petroso vineyard is located below the village of Montalcino and is one of the oldest production zones in the municipality. The last plot, the Castelnuovo dell'Abate, is located at the foot of the Amiata mountain in the southern part of Montalcino.

The winery is owned by Riccardo and Jennifer Campinoti. In the year 2000, the couple started producing their first wine together. Their aim was to produce elegant and not-too-heavy Brunello wines. After a few years, the winery became fully certified organic, and hardly any pesticides are used. The three plots of Sangiovese are harvested by hand and then selected on the sorting table. This ensures that only high-quality grapes are used. The fermentation of the grapes takes place in cement tanks. The process of maceration and fermentation takes 25 to 40 days on average. The wine is then transferred to oak barrels. These barrels are made of both French and Slavonian oak. The Rosso di Montalcino remains in barrel for 9 months. The Brunello di Montalcino, on the other hand, gets a much longer maturation: about 36 to 48 months. The wine is then bottled and stored until it is brought to market.

The Campinoti family is not only active with wine, but it’s also the place to go for private cooking lessons or an overnight stay in the cozy bed & breakfast. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for the ultimate Italy experience!

The best vintages of Le Regnaie are: 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2016.
