Intense, dark ruby with a light purple shimmer. The nose opens with notes of dark cocoa, some tree resin, then dark berries. Those spicy-resinous notes continue on the palate, alongside dark berry fruit, leading to a firm, grippy finish.
The 2018 Rosso Prima Pietra Toscana wafts up layer after layer of mineral-tinged blackberry and violets, while evolving further with hints of charred wood and animal musk. It’s silky and elegant on the palate, contrasted by tart black/blue fruit. This then takes a turn toward the savory side with wild herbs and an almost-salty character, while rounded tannins mount toward the close. This dark and brooding blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot from the Tuscan coast is a highly enjoyable effort.
This expressive red delivers a combination of olive, plum, cherry, black pepper and earth aromas and flavors. Firms up nicely, with fine-grained, persistent tannins and a resonant finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
