Swirling aromas of white stone fruits and white flowers are accentuated by a garden herb freshness that lifts the concentrated and compact body of this unusually powerful dry riesling for the Saar. Long and complete finish, the fine tannins already beautifully integrated.
The 2022 Riesling Wiltinger Volz Grosses Gewächs is from a parcel called In der Sängerei, at the core of the site, on the extension of the Scharzhofberg where it turns from south to southwest into he,[not sure what “he” is supposed to be?] that runs around into the Braunfels, on iron-rich, slate. The shy nose reveals a mere flicker of tart, red apple flesh. The palate, however, shows some of that savoriness, flowing in a juicy swish of tart red apple, ripe lemon and crushed yarrow. Tangy, elegant and long with a rounded ripe citrus finish. (Bone-dry)
Initially very closed on the nose, then opening with grape sugar, cassis, green apple. The palate opens smoothly, then slowly reveals a juicy, continuously concentrating acidity, the finish seems spicy, firm and particularly astringent, with light notes of marc and mineral undertones.
Juicy pit and stone fruit aromas with fine slate spiciness in the bright, clear and aromatic bouquet of the 2022 Volz GG set the stage for a Saar Riesling that is dense, juicy and spicy on the palate, with a firm structure and still restrained, astringent length. Tasted in Wiesbaden at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewächs in August 2023.
