Anne et Jean-François Ganevat

In the small village of Rotalier, in the French Jura, you can find Domaine Jean-François Ganevat. The domain has been owned by the Ganevat family since 1650 and since 1998, Jean-François and his wife Anne have been in charge. Before that time, Jean-François had been gaining experience abroad and in Chassagne-Montrachet, Burgundy.

The winery comprises a total of 13 hectares of biodynamically certified vineyards. Because the total area is spread over more than 30 plots, each vine has a unique piece of terroir. There is a preference for native and local grape varieties and they dominate the whole of the planting. There are many varieties planted; trousseau, poulsard, savagnin, gros béclan and corbeau, to name just a few.

The grapes are harvested manually, and the bunches are also de-stemmed by hand. Only used and old wood is used for the maturation and the sur lie maturation. The sur lie maturation takes an average of two years. Since 2006, no sulphites have been used in the entire production process. What Anne and Jean strive for, is terroir-driven wines without fuss and excessive use of wood. In addition to all of their wines from local grape varieties, the winery is also known for their beautiful chardonnay wines. Many admirers say that it is just as good as a good Burgundy. Their most famous wines are Chardonnay Arces, Les Miraculés and Chardonnay La Graviere. The showpieces of the red wines are Madelon Rouge, Je Veux Encore Rouge.
