Lucien Le Moine is one of the finest independent négociant firms, established in the small city of Beaune (Burgundy) in 1999 by Mounir Saouma (from Lebanon) and his friend Rotem Brakin. They do not own a single plot of vineyard but instead they are selecting only the best fruit (both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) from the most renowned vineyards of Burgundy, mainly of Premier Cru and Grand Cru Level, such as Le Montrachet Grand Cru, Richebourg Grand Cru, Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru and the 1er Cru Chambolle-Musigny “Les Amoureuses”.
Each year, they renew their selection, depending of their view of the vintage. The cellar of Lucien Le Moine is able to hold a maximum of 100 barrels (or 30.000 bottles) and they produce only 1 to 3 barrels per selected Cru. All their wines are aged by them from press to bottling and there is no blending, fining or filtration.
Each year, the selected barrels are 100% new and sourced from the Jupille forest in the northwestern part of France. The wines contain some natural CO2 (due to the malolactic fermentation), which helps to protect the wine in its most natural way. It is strongly recommended to decant the bottles before serving the wine, so the CO2 will disappear and the wine is able to show its true colours.
Since the production is very limited and the quality of the wines is unmistakably high, most of the wines produced by Lucien Le Moine are sold out upon release.
