The 2013 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a refined bouquet that is very well behaved for a Bonnes-Mares. It unfolds with blackberry, briary and light orange blossom scents. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins. It feels a little angular at the moment and it needs to gain more substance toward the finish. Perhaps this will go through a gawky stage in its youth?
?An overtly spicy nose also displays moderate though by no means invisible oak influence along with plenty of earth character. There is outstanding volume, power, muscle and mid-palate concentration to the serious broad-shouldered flavors that deliver impressive persistence on the beautifully well-balanced and hugely long finish. This is a big but not hard wine though the supporting tannins are notably firm so note well that sufficient patience is a prerequisite.
