Échezeaux 1998 is a red Grand Cru from the Côte de Nuits; it is a wine made by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti using Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Flagey-Échezeaux commune. Among this domaine's red wines, the Échezeaux typically opens up the earliest and tends to have the least complexity, which effectively means it can be enjoyed sooner than the La Tâche or Richebourg. The 1998 growing season for Burgundy was uneven, with brief cold spells in January and February, followed by erratic weather. Across the region, the resulting wines fell into two distinct categories. While some wines were rich in fruit and captivating, others meatier and more structured. Production here totaled 11,742 bottles, which was lower than in the preceding and following years, 1997 and 1999.
