Domaine Bernard Moreau & Fils is a winery in Chassagne-Montrachet, with a history dating back to the early 1800's. The domaine has 14 hectares of vineyards of which 9 hectares are owned by the domain, which practices organic viticulture. The domaine is now managed by the brothers Alexandre and Benoît, both very talented winemakers in the Cote d’Or. They produce restrained, layered, and voluminous white wines that are considered some of the finest in Burgundy.
The vineyard management philosophy of the domaine involves using no herbicides or pesticides and the use of organic fertilizers and employ pruning. The harvest is done solely by hand.
The Chardonnay is fermented and aged in 400 liter barrels (25% new), resulting in stellar quality white Burgundy. The use of these barrels in aging leads to a more silky wood signature.
The Bourgogne red Pinot Noir undergoes vinification and fermentation with emphasis on a more silky fruity character.
The top wines include the Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Grandes Ruchottes, and Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru. The wines have received high scores from wine critics, with the Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2017 receiving a 97 rating from Robert Parker.
The domaine's commitment to natural vineyard management and careful winemaking techniques has resulted in spectacular wines that express deepness and concentration. Bernard Moreau & Fils is an example to other growers in the area, and its wines are considered some of the finest in Burgundy.
