Winery Zind Humbrecht can be found in the heart of Alsace. The winery now owns 40 hectares. The company has been certified organic since 1997 and within the following five years they also managed to obtain the certificate for biodynamic viticulture. Domaine Zind Humbrecht owns several grand cru vineyards, such as Rangen, Brand, Herrenweg, Goldert, Sommerberg and Hengst. The plots that are not classified as grand cru or lieux-dit are sold as village wine or as AOC Alsace.
Domaine Zind Humbrecht officially exists since 1959 through a merger of the vineyards of the Humbrecht family and the Zind family. Before that, both families worked individually and the wines were marketed under their respective names. Humbrecht is a real wine family and has been making wine since the 17th century. The current working method is therefore based on those age-old family traditions.
The vines are carefully maintained and harvested by hand. The average annual yield is 35 hl/ha, which is extremely low. The vineyards are fertilized with homemade compost, so the soil remains healthy in a natural way.
The wines are produced by winemaker and also Master of Wine Olivier Humbrecht. The winemaking techniques that are used are aimed at expressing each specific terroir as much as possible. The fermentation is slow and at a low temperature. This is how the character of the wine is best preserved. In addition, a sur lie maturation of at least six months is applied. After about 1.5 years, the wines are bottled.
Zind Humbrecht's wines are pure, refined and of a high standard. It is with good reason that the wines are highly appreciated internationally.
