I love the 2023 Pegaso Arrebatacapas. From the moment I put my nose in the glass, it was love at first sight, or smell, as the case may be. It comes from a steep plot at close to 1,100 meters in altitude on shallow slate soils with three different zones planted in 1932, 1950 and 1953, mostly Garnacha on Rupestris de Lot roots growing on terraces with a southern exposure but balanced by the altitude. In 2023, they went back to working with horses, not only because of the steep slope but because they were convinced it would help contain erosion and improve the structure of the soils. It fermented in different materials—clay tinaja, stainless steel and plastic bins—and matured in used barrels. It has a very bright and pale color and is floral, clean and elegant, with some more austerity than the Pizarra, something in between the Granito and the Pizarra. The wine has superb balance and a beautiful texture, with great precision and clarity, chiseled and symmetric, and it has tasty flavors and complexity. This superb wine might be the finest version of this bottling to date. 2,100 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2025.
