It all starts with quartzite here. The 2021 Berg Schlossberg GG is a bone-dry Riesling from the Rheingau region, grown in its hard, stony soil, and produced at Weingut Künstler, where Günter Künstler manages the estate. This vineyard has been awarded the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® rating, Germany's top-tier vineyard classification, and this wine is bottled as Deutscher Qualitätswein.
The year 2021 demanded patience. During periods of heavy rain, daytime temperatures often soared to 20°C, accelerating the onset of downy mildew in the vineyards. Thanks to the reduced yield, the remaining grapes were able to ripen well during the October and November periods, and this late ripening is clearly reflected in the wine's refined flavor.
Fermentation took place in wooden cask (Holzfass). The core is rock-solid, yet subtly infused with exotic fruit and floral aromas; the texture is silky smooth and delicately refined rather than heavy, and the finish is exceptionally long.
It is best enjoyed through 2030. Decanting is recommended when opening a young bottle.
