Vietti
In the hills of the Langhe area and in the heart of Castiglione Falletto you will find winery Vietti. Carlo Vietti founded the winery at the end of the 18th century. Over the years, the winery has grown and now manages several cru vineyards in the area. Vietti is also a pioneer when it comes to single vineyard Barolo.
Vietti started by selling grapes to cooperatives. It was not until the 19th century that the decision was made to start producing wine. The vineyards are characterized by a calcareous, sandy soil. The vines that grow here are between 30 and 70 years old. The combination of these two factors ensures high quality grapes.
The winery produces 19 different wines, and they are released under various labels, such as Barbera d'Asti, Dolcetto d'Alba and of course Barolo. Vietti's flagship is the Barolo Villero, followed by Barolo Rocche, Barolo Brunate and the Tre Vigne Dolcetto and Barbera. The vinification starts with the fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then matured in French and Slavonian oak. The total aging time depends on the type of wine.
A special label was designed for the first time in 1974. These designs are made with special techniques such as screen printing, etching and lithography. The inspiration comes from the specific harvest year. Since 1988, it is only the Barolo Villero that gets a special design every year. The first 100 labels are signed by the artist. These hundred bottles are real collector's items!
Barolo Rocche's 1961 vintage is considered legendary. This was the very first single vineyard Barolo from Vietti. At the time, Vietti and only a handful of other producers, were among the first to adopt this method, and with great success!
