The Sorte Antiga 2020 of this Valdeorras white wine produced by Rafael Palacios, is one of the outstanding examples of how beautiful Godello wines can be. This wine is made from grapes grown in the company's sole vineyard block planted in 1920, the oldest on its estate, and the 2020 vintage marked only the third harvest for this wine.
Fermentation with the grape skins intact has given this white wine a rich body and subtle tannic nuances, characteristics not typically found in standard Godello wines. Furthermore, the combination of very high acidity and a low pH results in a restrained flavor profile rather than a heavy one.
The spring of 2020 in Galicia was rainy, leading to widespread outbreaks of mildew throughout the region. The winegrowers worked in the vineyards almost nonstop from April to October. The result is a wine with an alcohol content of 14%. This is lower than that of the 2019 vintage of the same wine, resulting in a more understated profile.
Dry, still, corked, 75 cl. This is not a light white wine intended as an aperitif, nor was it made for that purpose.
