The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has a candied patisserie- and vanilla-scented bouquet that is very seductive if a little oaky at the moment, though that should be absorbed with time. The palate is well balanced with a marine influence on the entry. A very saline Les Folatières with much more persistence on the finish compared to the Clos de la Garenne, this is promising (and also one of the only whites from Jadot around 14% abv).
A background suggestion of the exotic is present on the ripe and fresh aromas of spice, mineral reduction, white flower and an equally discreet application of wood. There is good richness and volume to the attractively textured and stony medium-bodied flavors that exhibit good balance on the sneaky long finish. This very pretty effort could use better depth so at least a few years of aging should be helpful.
Mid yellow. Class and weight on the nose. These vines are situated very close to the Clos de la Garenne so the comparison is interesting. Heightened ripe fruit, definitely some fresh apricot, but adequate acidity and in no danger of toppling over.
