Medium purple. Such an incredible nose that I am involuntarily smiling. Oil-cured black olives, smoke, pine and mint with layer after unwinding layer of complexity. Rocky minerality, a touch of blood-orange pith, sandy tannin and balanced acidity. Stunning. Gorgeous. A revelation. How much? Try not to think about it. (SCJ)
The 2021 Syrah Hudson Vineyard is rich, dense and explosive, with tons of savory, gamy intensity that soars out of the glass. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, leather, iron, game and dried sage fill out the layers. Deep and resonant, the 2021 possesses notable intensity but not quite the forbidding concentration of years past. I can't wait to see how this ages.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2021 Hudson Vineyards Syrah charges out of the gate with powerful scents of blueberry preserves, baked plums, and black cherry compote leading to a fragrant perfume of violets, licorice, and tar with wafts of dried apricots and orange rind. The medium to full-bodied palate is bright as a penny, with a refreshing backbone and wonderfully plush tannins defining the perfumed black fruits, finishing long and floral.
