Kalkofen Riesling G.C. 2024 Dr. Burklin-Wolf

Dr. Bürklin-Wolf's Kalkofen Riesling G.C. 2024 is a dry white Grosses Gewächs from the Pfalz, grown in one of the smallest Grand Cru vineyards at this winery located in Deidesheim. The key point here is its small scale. In 2024, just under 700 liters were produced, which amounts to fewer than a thousand bottles.

The age of the vines accounts for this wine's concentrated flavor. The Kalkofen's Riesling vines are 51-year-old vines; since old-growth vines produce fewer berries per plant, the ripe berries yield a more concentrated flavor. This wine has an alcohol content of 12.5%, consistent with the German 2024 vintage, which produced generally lighter and more restrained wines. It features a solid structure with tropical fruit aromas, and you can sense the distinctive, firm texture characteristic of the limestone in this vineyard.

In the Pfalz region, the harvest took place from the latter part of September through the early part of October. The total yield for this region decreased by approximately 4% compared to the previous year; however, considering that Germany as a whole was about 10% lower than the 10-year average, this represents only a modest decrease by comparison.

It was grown organically and has received DE-ÖKO-003 certification. It is best enjoyed between 2026 and 2060.
