Dr. Bürklin-Wolf's wine, 2024 Hohenmorgen Riesling G.C., is a dry Grand Cru Riesling made from grapes grown in the Hohenmorgen vineyard in Deidesheim, Germany's Pfalz. Hohenmorgen is considered one of the finest plots in Deidesheim, and this wine confirms that reputation. It brings wines which are juicy, with rich fruitiness, delicate minerality, and a long finish that lingers even after the fruit notes have faded. Harmony, this is the word that best describes this wine. No single element stands out too much; the whole is perfectly balanced.
2024 was a challenging year for the entire Germany region. Late frosts, heavy rains, and unstable weather during the harvest season forced winegrowers to respond quickly, but Pfalz, one of the country's two major wine-producing regions, was largely spared the frost damage that struck other areas. Although Pfalz's yield was down 4% from the previous year, this was only a slight decrease by 2024 standards. The harvest took place from late September to early October.
Alcohol levels remained modest, resulting in the 2024 German white wines having a generally light and refreshing profile. This makes them well-suited for Hohenmorgen. This Riesling wine was made with an emphasis on structure and finish rather than richness; while it is delicious to drink young, it has not lost its aging potential. This wine will be at its best between 2028 and 2055.
