The 2023 Hermitage La Chapelle opens with aromas of gentian, elderflower, violet and dark berries, marked by a somewhat austere, reserved profile at this stage. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and structured, it’s built around a deep, firmly constituted core of fruit that conveys the telluric authority of the site, though presently constrained by a strict, somewhat unyielding structure. The finish is long and mineral but marked by a certain firmness. While the terroir clearly asserts itself, the vintage appears less naturally suited to this style. It should nonetheless evolve with time in the cellar.

Very elegant and inspired. Restrained and layered, showing aromas of dark berries, dark chocolate, bark, warm herbs and exotic spices. Medium-bodied, focused and driven, with fine tannins and a long, flavorful and vibrant finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
Vinous (93)
The 2023 Hermitage La Chapelle brings its opening notes of elevated spice box, dried violets, pencil shavings and stone dust. With a little patience bright red plum and black cherry aromas also come forward. Broad-shouldered and subtly smoothed, the 2023 bundles articulate tension, drawing back the palate with finesse and traction on the detailed finale.
