Domaine Clau de Nell's 2019 Cabernet Franc is a red wine produced in the Anjou appellation of the Loire region, made exclusively from Cabernet Franc grapes grown on old vines in Ambillou-Château. The key factor here is the age of the vines. The average age of the vines is 60 years, and some plots are over 100 years old. These deep-reaching roots draw moisture from the tuffeau (a pale, soft limestone) when summer droughts strike. This was a particularly important factor in 2019. France experienced a prolonged period of hot, dry weather during June and July, with no rain for a long time; however, weather conditions improved in August and September, allowing for a harvest of pristine grapes. The nationwide consensus was that while yields were low, the quality was exceptional.

As a result, Cabernet Franc was born, a wine that retains the herbal and red fruit characteristics found in Anjou. Aging takes place in the estate's troglodyte caves, carved directly into the tuffeau bedrock. It remains cool and at a stable temperature.

Sylvain Potin has been managing this estate since 2009 and adheres to the biodynamic farming methods implemented in this vineyard since 2000. It is best enjoyed by 2029.
