Clos Saint Jean

Clos Saint Jean is a family-owned estate located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which was founded in 1900 by Edmund Tacussel. Since 1991, the property has been managed by the two sons of the late owner Guy Maurel, Pascal and Vincent Maurel. The estate covers 48 hectares, primarily located in the southeastern sector of the appellation, including the iconic Le Crau plateau, which is known for its red clays terroir. Cabane de Saint Jean and Coteaux de Saint Jean are the two small lieux-dits in Bedarrides where 20 hectares of the estate are located.

In 2002, Clos Saint Jean underwent a significant transformation, including the addition of renowned oenologist Philippe Gambie, who has been consulting at the estate since 2003..

Clos Saint Jean's wine production is fully sustainable and employs organic methods. The grapes are harvested manually. Wine from the Grenache vineyards is aged in concrete except for Sanctus Sanctorum (aged in 600 liter oak barrels) and only available in magnum. Wine from the Mourvèdre and Syrah vineyards are aged in barriques and 600 liter oak barrels. Aging for all the reds is about 12 months.

The most profound and highest scoring wines are the Chateauneuf du Pape Sanctus Sanctorumcome, the La Combe des Fous and Deus ex Machina.
