Château Cos Labory 2019 is a red Saint-Estèphe, a Fifth Growth from the Cos hill located in northern Médoc. Harvesting took place from the 25th of September through the 10th of October; Merlot was harvested first, followed by Petit Verdot on the 2nd of October, and finally, Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested last, from the 3rd to the 10th. Thanks to it, the Cabernet variety was able to hang on the vine for the first few days of October to ripen further, so the the final wine did not lose its famous firm and slightly restrained texture.
Aging takes place in oak barrels, half of which are new.
The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux was warm, sunny and dry, with a summer marked by heatwaves and drought, followed by late-season rains that restored freshness. In the northern Médoc region, this marked the sixth consecutive year of a good harvest. Château Cos Labory tends to produce chewy, tannic wines in such years, and 2019 is no exception. It is best enjoyed by 2040.
