When you say Moselle, you say J.J. Prüm. He is one of the leading producers not only in the region, but also in the whole of Germany. The Prüm family has been producing wine in the Moselle region for over 400 years. The winery was founded in 1911 by Johann Josef Prüm, after he left the family business S.A. Prüm. After Johann's death, his son Sebastien took over. He was at the helm of the company for about 50 years, and he put the winery on the worldwide map. Today, the reigns are in the hands of Manfred and his daughter Katharina.
The vineyards cover a total area of 14 hectares. This includes some of the region's most iconic vineyards, like Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Bernkasteler Badstube, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich and Graacher Domprobst. The only grape variety that is planted is Riesling. The yields of the vines are deliberately kept low, so that the bunches are of very high quality. Another special element is that some of the vines are not grafted on American roots. Something very rare after the phylloxera period…
To achieve a high sugar concentration, the grapes are harvested late. After the manual harvest, spontaneous fermentation starts in stainless steel tanks. During the vinification process, interventions are kept to a minimum, so that the final product is as pure as possible. It is with good reason that J.J. Prüm is known as the king of prädikats wines. The wines are characterized by their high intensity and minerality and by their fantastic aging potential.
Weingut J.J. Prüm is without a doubt one of the best in Germany! The best vintages of J.J. Prüm are 2005, 2013, 2017 and 2020.
