The Château d'Esclans is located near Fréjus, on the Mediterranean coast, in the Var department. It was created in the 12th century AD. The present castle, inspired by the design of Tuscan villas, was built in the mid-19th century.
Today, there are 74 hectares of vineyards. The main grape varieties are Grenache and Vermentino. Other grape varieties are Cinsault, Merlot, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Tibouren. The chateau is known for its old Grenache vines, which give more massive and better quality wines. Some vineyards have vines over 90 years old.
Château D'esclans is famous for, among other things, its Whispering Angel rosé and its Garrus.
