BOW (8.75)

Burghound (93)

From vines planted in 1926. A highly spiced nose features notes of cassis, plum, hoisin and a hint of sandalwood. The ripe, mouth coating and delicious medium-bodied flavors possess excellent length on the well-balanced if youthfully austere finish that also really firms up as it sits on the palate. This is definitely a "buy and forget you own it" wine as I would advise not touching a bottle for at least 10 years and 15 to 20 would likely be better (tasted january 2021).

Jasper Morris (95)

The vines date back to 1926. Rich dense black purple, the nose immediately gives a sense of weight and of distinction. Quite muscular but in addition to, rather than at the expense of, finesse. There is a fine succulent fruit and a sense of harmony. I can see the wood a touch though at the back, though Louis says this is a recent and passing phenomenon. Tasted: November 2019.
