Frederic Mugnier had just recently bottled his 1995s when I visited him in June, and he was reluctant to allow me to taste them. Two of the wines were showing admirably well and deserve to be mentioned.
Visually, Mugnier's Musigny was slightly lighter in color than his Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses, but its highly expressive bouquet of ripe cassis, wild blueberries, blackberries and flowers served as a prelude to the powerful flavors that would emerge. An explosive burst of layered red and black cherries as well as notes of violets, stones and sweet mushrooms can be found in this superb wine's fleshy, full-bodied and sublimely long flavor profile.
