The plots of Domaine d'Eugenie comprise a total area of 4.5 hectare. These vineyards are located in the villages of Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault. The winery produces roughly ten wines, from nine different appellations.
Domaine d'Eugenie was founded in July 2006, after François Pinault bought the estate from René Engel. François Pinault is, among other things, known for Chateau Latour, one of the most famous wineries from Bordeaux. The winery is located in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of the Côtes de Nuits. Since 2009, Domaine d'Eugenie can be found in the old 'Clos Frantin', which now bears the name Clos d'Eugenie. This walled vineyard including the winery is located next to the renowned La Tâche plot of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
The winery is run by Frédéric Engerer and Michel Mallard. Besides Domaine d'Eugenier, Frédéric is also responsible for Chateau Latour. The wine is produced by the passionate winemaker Jean Claude Briottet. During his work, he is supported by apprentices. Together with this team, Domaine d'Eugenie has managed to build a good reputation in a relatively short time.
Each plot is cultivated differently in order to clearly bring out the characteristics of the terroir. The winery has been working completely organically since 2011 and a number of vineyards are even cultivated in a biodynamic way.
The wines undergo a cold maceration of 7 to 10 days on average. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to French wooden barrels in which the malolactic conversion takes place. For the village wines, 40% new wood is used. For the premier cru wines, this is 50% and for the grand crus, it is 70%. The aging period lasts 12 months for the village wines and 15 months for the premier and grand cru wines. The grand cru wines are Echezeaux and Clos de Vougeot.
All the wines of Domaine d'Eugenie are highly regarded and very popular!
