Dark colour with purple rim. Very little bouquet emerges at first. Then just very slightly cooked on the nose. Darker fruit all round, not actually richer, this terroir is not a heavyweight in that respect. I might have preferred it to be picked a little earlier, but it holds together very nicely, and the cherries are a little fresher to finish.
Ripe but again attractively fresh aromas are comprised by notes of newly turned earth, red and dark raspberry and a whiff of just sliced fennel. There is plenty of underlying tension to the finer if slightly less concentrated medium weight flavors that display fine length if perhaps not quite the same depth on the noticeably less structured finale. This too is very good but the Chaponnières appears to offer a bit more development potential.
