Chateau Vieux Chateau Certan

Located in Pomerol on the east side of the Bordeaux wine district, Vieux-Château Certan is regarded as one of the best producers of wines in Pomerol. One of the recent most sought-after vintage deriving from this château is the Vieux-Château Certan 2015, best known for its incredibly soft and silky structure and complex taste with tones of blackberry and 98+ Parker points. Other great vintages are the 2009 and the 2010 vintage that scored 99 Parker points. In the past 15 years the quality of the wines from this chateau has increased enormously.

The Vieux-Château Certan vineyard covers a 14 hectare of surface which is divided in 23 different blocks of land, containing 70% Merlot, 5% Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc grape plants. The wine’s maturing process lasts between 18 to 24 months and is carried out in oak casks, in a temperature-controlled environment holding a steady 28°C.

The Vieux-Château Certan estate was established around the 16^th century, bearing the name of “Sertan”. In that time period, the premises were inhabited by the Demay family. Charles de Bosquet acquired the estate in the midst of the 19^th century and rebuilt the castles premises, the results of which are still manifested on the château’s location. In 1924 Vieux-Château Certan was acquired by the Belgium wine merchant Georges Thienpont, whose ancestors remained at the helm of the château until today.

In addition to Vieux-Château Certan, this château also produces another sublime wine named La Gravette de Certan.
