With both the 1996 and 1998 Shiraz Hanisch Vineyard incredible examples of Barossa Shiraz. Both are dense and full-bodied with soaring aromas of black fruits, damp earth, camphor, pepper, and asphalt. The 1996 is slightly more structured and tannic, and the 1998 is more perfectly formed with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, alcohol, and wood (the latter component has completely disappeared at age eleven).
This is the home estate of Rolf Binder, one of the most talented winemakers in South Australia. As the tasting notes indicate, these wines are holding up beautifully.
