The Hampden Estate was founded in 1753 by a Scot named Archibald Sterling. For 250 years, the company remained a family-owned business, selling rum to external blenders and independent bottlers. However, poor management led to financial problems in 2003, and the Jamaican government intervened to take over ownership and a portion of its debt to save the jobs of its employees. They sold it to the Hussey family's Everglades Farms in 2009, which marked the beginning of the first Hampden Estate-labeled bottlings from the distillery. These were launched in collaboration with Velier in 2018. Famous for its heavy ester-driven style, Hampden and Worthy Park are the only two Jamaican distilleries that produce exclusively pure single rum (using only pot stills). Currently, it has four pot stills: two from Forsyths in Scotland, one from Vendome in Kentucky, and one from T&T Engineering in South Africa.

The Habitation Velier Hampden 3YO 2019 1.50 liter bottle is a beautiful sight to behold. The rum is very flavorful and has approximately 253 esters (253.3 gr/hlpa). The spirit is distilled in a Double Retort Pot Still and has undergone a maturation period of 3 years at the Hampden distillery. Within three years, this rum has an Angel's Share of 22%. The bottles are bottled to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the partnership between La Maison & Velier and contain an alcohol percentage of 60.5%.
