Meaty and juicy, this has aromas of peppercorns, burned oranges, sage and red plums. It’s medium- to full-bodied with bitter-herb undertones and fine, sleek tannins. Primarily grenache, with some syrah and tempranillo.

The 2022 Double Lucky #8 is a spice box, opening with a beguiling bouquet of peppery rose, crushed raspberries, brown spice and rosemary. It is juicy to the core, more lifted than expected and full of energy, with perfumed red and blue fruits cascading across a stream of brisk acidity. The finish is savory and long, leaving a pleasantly bitter twang and a subtle tug of edgy tannins as nuances of blood orange keep the palate salivating. Give this another year or two in the cellar to blossom fully.

The 2022 Double Lucky is #8 and takes a Côtes du Rhône approach but adds Tempranillo. Black and white pepper, bacon fat, and dark, dense blueberry fruit combine around approachable tannins and a light-bodied frame of balanced acidity. Drink it now and for the next 5-7 years.
