Entirely crafted from Merlot and matured in 50% new oak, the 2023 Trotanoy has turned out superbly, revealing a perfumed, complex bouquet of dark berries, rose petals, incense and pencil shavings. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and deep, it is built around a multidimensional core of fruit framed by structured tannins, yet it remains remarkably sensual and velvety in texture. It may well surprise after several years in the cellar.
The depth and complexity are wonderful, with blackberry, blueberry, dried flower, bark, violet and black olive aromas. Full-bodied with a deep palate of dark fruit and a hint of dark chocolate. It’s full-bodied but very tight, framed beautifully with firm and open-grained tannins that go on and on. Chewy and lightly salty at the end. 100% merlot. Needs time to soften. Best after 2029.
100% Merlot. Cask sample.
Dark-fruit aromas. Full and solidly built, the tannins firm and persistent giving a dynamic of power on the finish. Long. (JL)
The 2023 Trotanoy is one of the most elegant Trotanoys in recent memory. I especially admire its svelte, vertical personality. There's plenty of Trotanoy energy, but the 2023 is not as imposing as most recent vintages have been. Dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, lavender, mocha and pomegranate all build beautifully with a bit of time in the glass.
Sporting a deep purple hue, the 2023 Château Trotanoy reveals ripe black fruits, iron, graphite, smoky tobacco, and crushed stone on the nose. It's a rich, medium to full-bodied, deep, dense Pomerol that has the classic structured frame of this terroir, ripe, building tannins, tons of chalky minerality, and a great finish. I almost always find a sanguine, bloody character in this wine, and it's certainly present in the 2023. This will need a decade of bottle age to reach its prime drinking plateau and will be long-lived. Drink 2035-2063.
