93-95: The 2023 L'Eglise Clinet unwinds in the glass with brooding aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with baking chocolate, pipe tobacco and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, layered and muscular, with a sweet core of fruit framed by rich, powdery, generously extracted tannin, it's broad-shouldered and powerful, concluding with a long, expansive finish. It's a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that checks in at 14.6% alcohol
Profound violet aromas with hints of ash and crushed stones, alongside mussel shells, purple fruit and iodine. Medium- to full-bodied, showing plush, silky texture and a length and depth that go on and on. So caressing. The density of fruit is really something, taking you into the soul of the wine. The harmonious balance leaves you satisfied and thoughtful. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. Best after 2029 but already a joy to taste. Drink or hold.
90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample.
Aromatically explosive with a burgundy-like notion of berry fruit. Mouth-filling fruit on the palate to match and enfold the abundance of firm tannin behind. Clearly built to age. (JL)
Rich, layered and dynamic in the glass, the 2023 L'Eglise-Clinet is outrageously beautiful. Inky red/purplish fruit, spice, blood orange, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco open in the glass. The 2023 shows terrific finesse. It's a wine of tremendous power and reserve, with soaring aromatics, mind-blowing balance, layered depth, boundless energy and a real sense of tension.
The Grand Vin 2023 Château L'Eglise Clinet checks in as 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that was raised in 82% new French oak. Deep purple-hued, it offers a sensational perfume of ripe black cherries, plums, smoke, tobacco, and chocolate, with some classic Pomerol damp earth and graphite. It's full-bodied on the palate, with a deep, layered mouthfeel, background oak, and a gorgeous finish. This is a heavenly, rich, layered, ultra-classic expression of this château. Don't miss it! It deserves a decade of bottle age and will cruise for 30-40 years. Drink 2034-2064.
