AP number 10 25. From 100-year-old pre-phylloxera vines.
More restrained nose but fresher on the palate and with great drive and length. VGV (JR)
The 2024 Riesling Leiwener Laurentiuslay Alte Reben is from one of the steepest sites in Leiwen, on gray slate. This was picked in the core of the site from ungrafted, single-stake vines that are now over 100 years old. Ripe Reine Claude plums come with overtones of hayflower and wet stone on the nose. The palate is flow, harmony and concentrated, stony, lemony suppleness. This flows with exquisite juiciness and wonderful elongation. (Dry)
The Riesling 2024 Laurentiuslay Alte Reben Trocken, as it is referred to on the consumer label, was made with fruit picked on century-old un-grafted vines still trained on single pole and high density in the steep and central part of the vineyard and was fermented and aged in old Fuder. This white-hay-colored wine offers a superb even if still rather reduced nose of mirabelle, cardamom, earthy spices, bergamot, pear, and smoke. It is nicely juicy on the palate, where it develops a pungent sense of spices and herbs. The finish is engaging, long, and promising, especially as the fruity side comes through. This is one for the cellar, but the wait will be worth it.
