The white 2023 Albillo Mayor Los Prados was produced with grapes from a single vineyard in the village of Canalejas de Peñafiel, a centenary plot at 905 meters in altitude that was registered in 1921 and planted on limestone and marl soils with an eastern exposure. The plot is very small, around 0.3 hectares. After being foot trodden, it fermented in a used barrel, where it matured for 16 months. The wine reflects a cooler year, with 11.7% alcohol, a pH of 3.12 and 6.4 grams of acidity. This is more reductive than El Arenal, which is more or less produced in the same way, but Los Prados had a shorter élevage. The plot has a gentle slope, and the soil is rich in limestone. This is pale and flinty, nuanced and subtle. The palate is vibrant and fresh, with great tension and a salty finish. 289 bottles produced.
