Faiveley

Domaine J. Faiveley

Domaine Faivelay is one of the largest and most renown estates in Burgundy with vineyards in the “Côte de Nuits”, “Côte de Beaune”, “Côte Chalonnaise” and in “Chablis”. The various vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and some Aligoté.

The company has been established in Nuits-St-Georges since 1825 and was founded by Pierre Faiveley, although his son Joseph Faiveley gave his name to the family business. Today, Erwan Faiveley (7th generation) is running the domaine, together with his sister Eve who joined the company in 2014.

Since 2007 the style of the various wines changed significantly. The old-style Faiveley wines could be very tannic and closed, but the new-style wines are much fruitier without losing their intensity. The last decades, there has been a major expansion of vineyards with some top acquisitions in Meursault, Bienvenue-Bâtard Montrachet (Grand Cru) and Bâtard-Montrachet (Grand Cru) to increase the proportion of white wines.

In fact, the domaine owns small parcels of land in twelve different Grands Cru, including a miniscule piece in “Le Musigny” Grand cru of only 0.03 Ha and the iconic “Corton Grand Cru – Clos des Cortons Faiveley” (3.02 Ha), which is a “monopole” (exclusively owned by Domaine Faiveley). Furthermore, they own plots in 25 different 1er Crus (both red and white), and various other vineyards throughout Burgundy for a total of 115 Ha.

The company also buys grapes from other growers for their négociant business. To describe Domaine Faiveley in short: Wine making with respect for tradition, but with a modern twist!
