2024 was a challenging year across Germany. National production totaled approximately 7.9 million hectoliters, a decrease of about 10% from the 10-year average; however, Pfalz was relatively less affected, with production down only about 4% from the previous year. The harvest in the Pfalz region lasted from late September to early October. Alcohol levels remained moderate, and the 2024 wines generally have a lighter structure than recent vintages.
This suits Pechstein well. The lighter body allows the basalt's minerality and acidity to shine through more prominently. Enjoy it in a decent-sized glass at 12-14°C. It is best consumed between 2030 and 2060.

The 2024 Riesling Forster Pechstein G.C. is from the quintessential basalt of Pechstein. It presents smokiness and citrus but also understatement. The palate tingles with ripe zestiness. This is as concentrated as it is compact. For now, it has a sheen of Amalfi lemon on naked stone. Give this time as it is long and full of potential. (Bone-dry)

The aroma is terroir-tinged and smoky, with a noble réduction. The palate is broad, starts rich and supple, then develops mealy, medium-density extracted phneols and a lively acidity. Very young and very homogeneous in all components.
Mosel Fine Wines (95)
The 2024 Pechstein Forst G.C., as it is referred to on the consumer label, displays a superbly complex, herbal, and intense nose of minty herbs, licorice, smoke, nutmeg, herbal tea, blackberry, and dried white flowers. The wine proves compact and quite energetic on the palate, with imposing notes of smoke, herbs, and darker fruits. Yet there is superb finesse and a comparatively light structure running through the wine and making it beautifully balanced. This superbly combines a forceful and intense side with more finesse and leaves a beautifully vibrating and long finish. This is a splendid GG in the making.
