The 2022 growing season in Alto Adige, as in all of northern Italy, was characterized by warm and dry weather. For red wines such as Cantina Terlano’s “Lagrein Riserva Porphyr,” this allowed the grapes to ripen fully and develop a rich flavor, while the day-night temperature fluctuations typical of Alpine slopes ensured a perfect balance of flavor nuances. At night, a cold mountain breeze descended from the mountains onto the porphyry terraces around Terlano, allowing the wine to retain good acidity even during a hot year. The 2022 vintage is expected to feature a deep color, aromas of ripe dark fruits, and a mineral character reminiscent of iron, a quality that the porphyry imparts to the Lagrein grape. Compared to recent cooler vintages, this vintage has a more intense flavor and is ready to drink now. Recommended drinking window: 2025–2032.
